San Mateo County Libraries is seeking enthusiastic and motivated high school and college students for the position of Homework Help Intern. Homework Help Interns will be high school or college students who are passionate about supporting the academic success of youth, particularly in English Language Arts and Math. This will include supporting students after school by monitoring homework centers, providing light homework support, and assisting students in accessing digital tutoring and other academic resources.
Location: Interns will be assigned to a community library and work under the mentorship of a supervisor. County libraries include Atherton, Belmont, Brisbane, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, North Fair Oaks, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, and Woodside. Interns actively engage youth within the library or at predetermined outreach locations.
Schedule: This internship has a flexible and non-regular schedule. The intern will work 8-15 hours per week (Monday-Friday). The hours will include evenings. Start and end dates are flexible and will be determined at the time of offer. These up to 16-week internships will start in February.
Salary: $23.24 hourly. NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra-help workers are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment.
After training, interns will support after-school homework labs at San Mateo County Libraries. In addition to monitoring and staffing a warm and welcoming space, interns will: provide homework and reading support, help students log into online tutoring services, facilitate learning activities and games, maintain the homework help space, restock supplies, and enforce library rules and procedures.
Education: Enrolled in high school or college. 3.0 GPA or higher. Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin/Cantonese, or Tagalog preferred.
