Location: San Francisco, CA

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–3:00 PM

Start: ASAP

Contract Duration: 6 months (26 weeks)

Pay Rate: $24/hour

Overview

We are hiring an Animal Technician on behalf of our client, a well-established biomedical research organization in San Francisco. This role supports laboratory animal care operations and research programs by ensuring proper animal husbandry, sanitation, health monitoring, and regulatory compliance.

Scope of Duties

  • Provide daily care for laboratory animals in accordance with federal, state, and institutional regulations
  • Perform animal husbandry tasks including feeding, watering, cage changing, and room sanitation
  • Monitor animal health and report concerns to veterinary and supervisory staff
  • Maintain accurate records including animal health surveillance, feed logs, per-diem records, and temperature/humidity logs
  • Clean and disinfect animal housing areas, equipment, cage washers, and autoclaves
  • Support general maintenance of animal facilities and follow established SOPs
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support research operations

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of animal handling or laboratory animal sanitation experience
  • General knowledge of animal feeding, caging, and space requirements
  • Ability to identify animal health concerns and escalate issues appropriately
  • Familiarity with sanitation and disinfection procedures, including use of cage washers and autoclaves
  • Basic computer skills, including email and electronic record systems
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently or as part of a team

Physical & Safety Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, and move on hard surfaces for up to 7 hours per day
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including masks, gloves, gowns, and respirators as assigned
  • Compliance with workplace rules, including no eating or drinking in animal areas

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • AALAS Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician training or equivalent experience preferred
  • One year of animal care experience, or two years of relevant experience in lieu of formal certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
