Job Summary
The Senior Athletic Trainer (Sr. AT) will work primarily out of the Orthopaedic Institute on the Mission Bay Campus of UCSF. The Sr. AT will serve as the lead liaison to the Manager of Athletic Training Services in providing support for overseeing the AT staff. The position entails a clinical component of physician support, an outreach component of on-site athletic training services, and an administrative component of leading and assisting with program projects and events.
Certain terms and conditions of employment for this position, including the rate of pay, benefits, etc., are currently subject to negotiation with the appropriate union.
Clinically, the Sr. AT will spend time in a specialty clinic assisting with the day-to-day operations. They will assist with overseeing the AT staff and ensure day to day operations are completed at a high level of efficiency. The Sr. AT will be asked to room patients, assist in the patient intake process, and pull up any necessary records relevant to the patient visit. The Sr. AT will also provide physician support by assisting with patient education and post-operative procedures as requested. Other responsibilities include assisting with the daily administration of clinic duties, troubleshooting problems as needed for providers and staff, and other tasks as assigned.
The Sr. AT will serve as the outreach lead and will spend time providing on-site care for high school athletes and assist the Manager of AT with administrative sports medicine duties as assigned. They will work independently as assigned, or in collaboration with Staff Athletic Trainers, attending physicians, and other staff in delivering sports medicine services for patients and athletes. They will be expected to establish or continue to facilitate a working relationship with the assigned school in delivering athletic training services to the athletes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing on-site sports medicine care, sport event coverage, athlete health and safety education, and additional administrative duties. In addition, the Sr. AT will provide mentorship and support to the AT staff of the schools they oversee. As well as ensure appropriate coverage of outreach services provided by PlaySafe, assist with establishing and improving policies and procedures for the PlaySafe Program, assist with managing the Playsafe Preceptor Program, and other tasks as assigned. The Sr. AT will be expected to work in collaboration with the Manager of AT in ensuring sports medicine protocols and health and safety recommendations are given and are being followed at all PlaySafe schools.
Administratively, the Sr. AT will be asked to lead and assist with program and department projects and events which includes planning support for various high school screening exams as well as support for educational conferences and community event coverage. They will be asked to fill in for the Manager of AT when they are out of the office in providing supervision of the AT staff and projects.
The salary range for this position is $78,900 - $167,300 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications
* Current and in good standing Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) with the Board of Certification, Inc.
* AHA BLS / CPR Certification
* Bachelor's degree in related field
* Five (5) years education and/or experience working as a certified athletic trainer
* Thorough knowledge of athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques.
* Ability to work in a collaborative manner as a member of multidisciplinary team.
* Strong written and oral communication.
* Excellent time management and organizational skills.
* Thorough knowledge of medical terminology appropriate to job responsibilities.
* Excellent interpersonal / communication skills to interact with a diverse patient population.
* Strong familiarity of all Microsoft Office programs.
* Ability to provide first responder care at athletic events.
* Demonstration of recent experience with sports medicine/event coverage/first responder care of the high school athlete or beyond.
* Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters involving athletic injuries and treatments.
* For positions associated with Sports Medicine, must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times, avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
Preferred Qualifications
* Advanced degree in related field
* Previous experience working in a clinical setting with physicians and office assistants.
* Thorough knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
* Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.
* Project management experience.
