Job Description

Duties/Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to: Phlebotomist

• Perform venipuncture and finger sticks using standard equipment, including vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, blood culture supplies, syringes, and butterfly needles.
• Explain procedures clearly to patients/youth before performing them.
• Centrifuge, label, and store blood samples for analysis by CCHCS Clinical Laboratory staff and/or external laboratory service providers.
• Maintain and stock supplies, including hand trays and necessary inventory.
• Follow institution-written procedures or standard phlebotomy practices to ensure positive patient/youth identification.
• Obtain blood specimens from patients/youth under a variety of conditions.
• Record test orders into the electronic system according to procedure.
• Handle and properly label biohazardous specimens.
• Process non-blood clinical specimens for testing or external send-outs.
• Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment.
