About the Food Pantry

The Pop-Up Pantry program serves to alleviate food insecurity among students. It is partnered with the SF/Marin Food Bank and only requires an SF student ID to participate.

Position Details

This position assists the Food Pantry Student Coordinator in running and managing the AS Food Pantry. This position will also work closely with the AS Farmers Market Student Coordinator and help facilitate that event.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist the Student Coordinator in organizing and managing the AS Food Pantry, which includes but is not limited to: supervising volunteers/interns with unloading, sorting, set up, breakdown and monitoring food distribution to the students
  • Assist in the recruitment, management, training and supervision of the internship program
  • Assist in preparing documentation needed for monthly reports to the SF/Marin food bank
  • Assist in coordinating activities to present information on food insecurity and food assistance with individuals and groups
  • Assist with volunteers recruitment and assigning positions to volunteers
  • Assist with inventory sheets and food placement
  • Assist in setting out the number of items handed out based on inventory sheet
  • Assist in management of the checking-in students to the food pantry
  • Re-stock items as needed and break down boxes as they empty
  • Assist in data collection, budgeting and purchasing of necessary items such as gloves, signage, etc.
  • Assist outreach to the campus community and local Bay Area communities to share programming and event information for Food Pantry
  • Help to promote the Food Pantry and update events via social media outlets (Blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), and table on campus to encourage participation and involvement in the Department's work
  • Email relevant news and information regarding the Food Pantry to students
  • Disseminate information and flyers to various campus departments, individuals and organizations to keep them informed of scheduled programming

Qualifications:
  • Must be enrolled at SFSU with a minimum of 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates
  • Ability to interface effectively with persons at all professional levels and within all cultural groups
  • Broad knowledge of issues being faced in marginalized communities
  • Willingness to learn and grow beyond one's current state of cross-cultural awareness
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle projects/assignments while providing excellent professional service to SFSU community
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information
  • Ability to lift over 25 lbs
  • Ability to stand for 4 hr shifts
