Accounting at Brex

The Accounting team ensures accurate, timely financial results that guide business decisions. Beyond closing books, we automate, iterate, and improve processes in partnership with cross‑functional teams. We also serve as product power users and thought leaders, combining deep ownership with a product mindset.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Accountant on the Accounts Payable team, you will ensure financial record integrity and develop scalable processes as the business grows. You will work across credit card, treasury, intercompany, expense accruals, legal reporting, reconciliations, and fluctuation analysis. You will manage multiple priorities while maintaining high quality.

Where You'll Work

This role is based in our San Francisco office. We offer a hybrid environment with two coordinated days in office per week (Wednesday and Thursday). Starting February 2, 2026, the requirement is three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday). Additionally, employees may work fully remote up to four weeks per year.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of AP processes including expense recognition, prepaid amortization, invoice review, payment processing, and system workflows.
  • Partner with Procurement, Finance, and stakeholders to optimize procure‑to‑pay, including vendor onboarding, purchase requests, POs, and expense reporting.
  • Drive vendor workflow automation using tools such as Auditoria, establishing KPIs to enhance efficiency.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and support scaling of the global AP function across jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Design to test and launch new product features.
  • Lead reviews and analysis of operating expenses for financial accountability, including budget vs actuals and account flux analyses.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end activities: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, 1099 reporting, and variance analytics.

Requirements

  • College graduate with a 4-year degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 3+ years of public accounting or private industry experience.
  • Strong ability to examine, verify, research, and reconcile financial data and accounts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Ability to work fast‑paced environments and address difficult situations professionally.
  • Innovative with outside‑the‑box solutions.
  • Owner's mentality toward responsibilities and career growth.
  • Independent worker who manages deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Bonus Points

  • Licensed CPA.
  • A combination of public accounting and private industry experience.
  • Knowledge and experience using NetSuite, Coupa, Brex, Auditoria, or Pigment.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $96,000–$120,000. Base pay depends on location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. Equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
