Responsibilities

1. Assembles equipment such as tourniquets, needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol according to test requirements.
2. Verifies patient or donor identity, explains procedures, obtains samples, locates veins, performs venipunctures, and labels samples accurately. Capable of drawing blood from patients of all ages and performing at least 12 venipunctures per hour with 100% accuracy.
3. Plans and organizes work efficiently under heavy workload to expedite results.
4. Delivers lab reports timely, maintains accurate filing and data entry into hospital systems, including charges and registrations.
5. Answers calls, routes messages appropriately, and maintains a neat and safe work environment.
6. Performs equipment maintenance and monitors supply levels.
7. Follows hospital policies on attendance and participates in department meetings.
8. Performs pathology duties when needed and serves as a resource for laboratory services and medical records.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Six months to one year related experience or training
• Valid California Phlebotomy Certificate

Pay Range

$37.15 - $48.48 per hour, with final pay based on experience and other factors. Alameda Health System offers comprehensive benefits.
