ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Office of the County Executive plays a central role in leading and supporting the work of Marin County government. We serve as the primary office serving the Board of Supervisors and help guide Countywide operations, strategic planning, and policy development.

Our responsibilities are broad and interconnected. We manage the County's $860 million budget, coordinate cross-departmental efforts, lead public communications and engagement, and support major initiatives such as climate resilience, housing, racial equity, and emergency preparedness. We also oversee internal operations, including County facilities and key administrative functions that keep local government running smoothly.

Our office brings people together—within government and across the community—to address complex challenges and improve services for all residents. We take pride in being problem-solvers and trusted partners in advancing the County's mission.

At the County of Marin, we are deeply committed to building a healthy, safe, inclusive, and sustainable future. Our work is grounded in the values of equity, transparency, and public service. Whether it's supporting affordable housing, addressing homelessness, responding to disasters, or designing more accessible services, we are working to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Marin County residents.

The County seeks to fill newly established and re-envisioned Assistant County Executive (ACE) positions. Reporting to the County Executive, the ACE drives implementation of County strategic priorities, champions operational excellence, and serves as a key steward of the County's mission and values. This role provides executive leadership and oversight for an assigned functional group of County departments—spanning finance, people, systems, and operations—to ensure integrated, high-performing, and forward-focused service delivery. These roles are responsible for the continuous improvement in service and customer service delivery both within their assigned group and coordinating across the functional groups to achieve excellent outcomes.

The ideal candidate will bring strong public sector leadership and administrative acumen; possess experience with policy development and implementation at the enterprise‑wide level; have proven ability in strategic planning, innovative program design and service delivery; and have good working knowledge of local government structures and operations, including the functions of County and municipal governments and the funding practices of state and federal agencies.
