Departmental Overview
The College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) is a dynamic, innovative college at UC Berkeley that represents a transformation across computing, data science, statistics, and related disciplines. CDSS is committed to examining how the digital revolution affects equity and opportunity and to building capacity to respond to these challenges. The college coordinates programs and units including the Data Science Undergraduate Studies program, the EECS Department, the Department of Statistics, the Berkeley Institute for Data Science, Computational Precision Health, and the Center for Computational Biology. The college supports growing Berkeley's broad-based programs in data science, computing, statistics and other interdisciplinary programs serving thousands of undergraduate students each year.
The Executive Assistant to the Dean provides high-level support to the Dean and Chief Administrative Officer, ensures administrative processes and office operations run smoothly, and coordinates the Dean's highly complex and confidential calendar. The role requires understanding the priorities and working styles of the executives to organize issues by urgency and allocate time for scheduled events, travel, and meetings. The incumbent independently investigates daily issues within the calendar's scope and demonstrates sound judgment in selecting methods to obtain solutions.

40% Schedule all of the Dean's meetings on their own initiative. Make travel arrangements for the Dean. Manage high-level, sensitive contacts with discretion and diplomacy. Gather and compile background information, talking points and briefing materials for the executive. Assist in planning meetings and public events. Understand the Dean's priorities and preferences to manage the calendar and adapt to shifting priorities. Coordinate communications with affiliated units (e.g., DSUS, Berkeley Institute for Data Science, EECS, Statistics) as needed. Gather, prepare, and analyze background and briefing materials in a timely manner.
15% Contribute to developing and implementing efficient information, project and communications systems in collaboration with the Chief Administrative Officer; manage these systems within the Dean's immediate office and division once established.
15% Act as gatekeeper to ensure only matters requiring the Dean's attention are forwarded; respond diplomatically to time and attention requests based on current priorities and schedules.
15% Manage administrative operations for a smoothly run CDSS Dean's Office.
10% Respond to inquiries from faculty, staff, students and the public on behalf of the Dean regarding campus operations, policies and procedures. Forward issues to appropriate staff for resolution. Track inquiries to ensure timely handling and resolution. Serve as the first point of contact for internal and external constituencies, requiring tact and diplomacy.
5% Investigate issues and draft responses for urgent requests as needed.

The University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and to adhere to posted ranges. Salary offers are based on final candidate qualifications and experience. Classification: EXEC AST 3 CX. Anticipated hiring range: $78,930 - $100,091. UC Berkeley salary range: $78,930 - $126,961.
The salary offer will consider experience and salary equity with current UC Berkeley employees in similar roles.
