Medical Science Liaison, Dermatology – San Francisco, CA
Johnson & J&N Innovative Medicine is recruiting a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in the San Francisco, CA territory, covering San José, San Mateo, and Sacramento. The position is field‑based and requires frequent travel (~80%).
Job Description
The MSL provides objective, science‑based information and education to opinion leaders (OLs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities include building relationships, developing a strategic territory plan, presenting data, supporting investigative research, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a field‑strategic plan for the territory.
- Respond promptly to unsolicited scientific inquiries from HCPs, investigators, health systems, and academic medical centers, integrating scientific data including real‑world evidence.
- Present data and information appropriately for diverse audiences.
- Execute proactive and reactive outreach plans approved via the legal/HCC exception process.
- Integrate scientific data into real‑world practice to meet customer needs, adapting interpersonal style to particular situations.
- Anticipate the responses of various stakeholders and tailor engagement accordingly.
- Prioritize franchise‑customer initiatives and field responsibilities while balancing administrative duties and project work.
- Facilitate external‑internal research communication, leveraging standards of care, company‑sponsored trials, and competitor landscape.
- Engage external investigators on unsolicited research inquiries and act as liaison to R&D, Medical Affairs, and operations.
- Provide clinical trial support: identify potential sites, resolve enrollment issues, and participate in site initiation and investigator launch meetings.
- Participate in team calls, trainings, and journal clubs to maintain scientific acumen.
- Attend and lead at scientific conferences, congresses, symposia, advisory boards, and investigator meetings.
- Document and share medical insights; synthesize data and insights for the MSL team and partners.
- Perform all administrative requirements timely and compliantly (expense reports, activity documentation).
- Collaborate with field partners and other MSL teams, supporting sales training initiatives.
- Maintain thorough understanding of regulatory/compliance guidelines, corporate policies, and Medical Affairs SOPs.
Qualifications
- PharmD, PhD, MD, NP, PA, or equivalent advanced medical degree with +3 years of relevant therapeutic area clinical experience.
- 2‑3 years of relevant work experience, including clinical, research, or related pharma roles.
- Significant experience giving presentations.
- Ability to support travel up to 75‑80%, including overnight travel and occasional weekends.
- A valid U.S. driver's license and clean driving record.
- Residence within the assigned territory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge or experience in dermatology, immunology, or related therapeutic area.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and remote technologies.
- Residence in or near San Francisco, CA.

Compensation & Benefits
Anticipated base pay range: $117,000 – $175,500. Pay is inclusive of a long‑term incentive program.
