Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Data Governance and Data Quality Specialist to establish and scale the data governance foundations required across the enterprise. This individual will drive governance adoption, improve data quality practices, and implement governance tooling that enables reliable, compliant, and business‑ready data consumption.

The role focuses on defining governance processes, embedding data‑quality standards, setting up access controls, and ensuring that metadata, lineage, and classification structures are consistently implemented. The specialist will balance hands‑on configuration of governance tools (40%) with consulting, advisory, and cross‑functional leadership (60%). Success in this role will come through creating repeatable governance frameworks, strong documentation, and tight collaboration with Data Governance, Engineering, Privacy, and Product teams.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build Governance Foundations: Define and implement standards for metadata, lineage, data quality, access controls, and stewardship across the organization.
  • Establish Governance Standards: Develop documentation, workflows, and monitoring frameworks for data access, storage, quality rules, retention, and usage control.
  • Lead DQM and Stewardship Practices: Design and operationalize data‑quality rules, validation checks, issue‑management processes, and profiling strategies.
  • Hands‑On Tool Configuration: Configure and demonstrate governance platforms such as Collibra or Alation, including domain modeling, lineage setup, glossary creation, and workflow development.
  • Integrate Governance across functions: Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Analytics teams to embed governance requirements into their pipelines, models, and consumption layers.
  • Cross‑Functional Advisory: Run workshops, assess governance gaps, and build team‑specific adoption roadmaps.
  • Monitor and Improve: Track governance maturity and continuously enhance metadata completeness, lineage coverage, data‑quality scoring, and access entitlements.
  • Stakeholder & Program Alignment: Work directly with governance leadership to communicate risks, prioritize issues, and shape the enterprise roadmap.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in enterprise Data Governance, Data Quality Management, or data stewardship
  • Strong grounding in data classification, sensitive‑data protection, retention rules, and compliance standards
  • Proven experience implementing data‑quality rules, monitoring frameworks, profiling, and issue‑management workflows
  • Extensive experience in metadata management, lineage, business glossary development, and policy enforcement
  • Strong background in access management, RBAC models, and entitlement workflows
  • At least 5 years partnering with engineering, analytics, and business teams to drive governance adoption
  • Experience integrating governance tools with cloud platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, or GCP
  • Ability to evaluate governance gaps and convert them into scalable frameworks and operating models
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify governance concepts for diverse stakeholders
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as CDMP, DGSP, CISSP, or CISM
  • Experience designing governance controls at the application layer (validation rules, metadata checks, automated scoring)
  • Familiarity with Power BI for data‑consumption governance and quality monitoring
  • Background in stewardship program rollout, governance operating model design, or enterprise data‑quality programs
  • Experience working in Agile environments using JIRA or Azure DevOps

Being a Mathemagician

  • Embody MathCo's culture and way of working.
  • Demonstrate ownership and strive for excellence in delivering results.
  • Actively engage and contribute to initiatives fostering company growth.
  • Support diversity and appreciate different perspectives.
