The After School Program Staff will assist with the implementation of the VLCS After School Program. The Program Leader is responsible for helping to maintain a safe, positive, and enriching After School Program environment; ensuring a high level of program quality and working to establish a positive relationship with all program participants. The Program Leader will serve as a positive role model to K - 8th grade youth within the mission of the Valley Life Charter School standards and expectations with emphasis on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and leadership skills.

Part-time/ Hourly position
Shifts are 2:30pm to 5:30 M, T, W, F, and 1:00pm to 5:30 pm on Thursdays

Some earlier shifts maybe required on early release days.

Job Summary:

The After-School Instructional Aide assists in the implementation of educational and recreational activities for students in the after-school program. This role supports the lead instructors in creating a safe, engaging, and productive environment for students to complete homework, participate in enrichment activities, and build social skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Instructional Support

  • Assist students with homework and academic tasks.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group guidance to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Help students build effective study skills and habits.
2. Activity Coordination
  • Plan and prepare materials for learning activities.
  • Lead discussions and facilitate learning experiences.
  • Support students during physical activities, arts and crafts, and other program elements.
3. Student Supervision
  • Create and maintain a safe, positive environment.
  • Oversee students during arrivals, departures, and transitions between activities.
  • Implement behavior management strategies as directed by the lead instructor.
4. Administrative Support
  • Track attendance and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare materials and supplies for daily program activities.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as needed under the direction of the lead instructor.
5. Collaboration
  • Work closely with other team members to deliver a cohesive program.
  • Attend staff meetings and required training sessions.
  • Provide constructive feedback to improve program quality.
6. Schedule Adherence
  • Follow the after-school program schedule, including being present at assigned locations and transitioning promptly between activities.
  • Notify the after-school director as soon as possible if unable to attend or if schedule changes are needed.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
    • Basic understanding of child development and educational practices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Instructional Support staff must be cleared as NCLB :
  • 48 credits earned from an accredited college
  • Or Associates Degree or higher
  • Or a passing score on the instructional assistant exam
  • First aid and CPR certified by the first day of employment
  • Valid TB Clearance by the first day of employment
  • Clear Criminal Background/Fingerprint Clearance
  • Maintain acceptable standards of physical health, energy, and emotional adjustment to the job environment.
  • Computer skills - proficiency and knowledge of Google and the G - suite and its and others as necessary

  • Apply common sense understanding of detailed multi-step instructions in written, oral, and diagrammatic form.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • The regular requirement is to stand for an hour to an hour and a half, sit, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • You will be required to work outdoors in most weather conditions.
  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Interaction with unruly children
  • Occasional evening and or weekend work
  • Occasional travel
  • Willingness to be trained as needed
  • Willingness to work longer than a traditional workday
  • Must be able to work duties as assigned: Daily, there will be at minimum 1-morning, duty, one lunch duty, and 1 afternoon duty
