Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and interpret a wide variety of research data.
  • Design and conduct research including selecting data samples, developing research instruments, and applying statistical methods.
  • Prepare reports, charts, tables, and visual aids to communicate findings.
  • Conduct statistical studies in support of research proposals and protocols.
  • Manage personnel, timelines, logistics, and data collection for research studies; oversee undergraduate research assistants.
  • Maintain and develop research gathering, retrieval, and reporting systems.
  • Collaborate across faculty, graduate students, research assistants, and staff to manage research projects and communication flow.
  • Plan studies, design survey instruments, and determine sampling and reporting procedures.
  • Analyze research data and understand components of literature review as they relate to study design.
  • Contribute to developing and revising ongoing projects.
  • Attend and participate in research seminars.
  • Collaborate on the design, documentation, testing, and implementation of research studies.
  • Assist in developing systems for organizing data to analyze, identify, and report trends.
  • Schedule and coordinate research meetings.
  • Coordinate hiring, interviewing, and reviewing applicants for undergraduate and predoctoral research assistants.
  • May be involved in researching, evaluating, and selecting new data reporting products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of research functions.
  • Skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design, and data security measures.
  • Analytical and consultative skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Python, Julia, STATA, MATLAB, and/or Perl for code writing.
  • Proficiency with version control software such as Git.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to establish positive professional relationships.
  • Exemplify Haas' four Defining Leadership Principles.

Education / Training

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience running code on Linux‑based remote server environments.
  • Experience managing small teams.
  • Experience writing on technical subjects for professional or non‑professional audiences.

Salary & Benefits

The University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of compensation. The budgeted hourly rate for this position is $35.78.

  • This is a 6‑month, part‑time, temporary position (20 hours/week).
  • This is a non‑exempt, biweekly‑paid position.
  • Full‑time staff receive at least 80 hours of paid professional development per year.

This position will be governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Research and Public Service Professionals, represented by the UAW. This is not a visa opportunity.
