Investment Accountant

Location: 50 California Street, Suite 2100, San Francisco, CA 94111

Schedule: Hybrid — Onsite Monday–Thursday, Remote on Fridays

Duration: 6-Month Contract (Possibility of Extension)

Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Position Overview

The Investment Accountant plays a key role in supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions for investment portfolios, joint ventures, and fund activities. This intermediate-level position requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities with moderate supervision. The ideal candidate will bring a solid understanding of partnership and investment accounting, along with the ability to analyze complex financial data and collaborate effectively across departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review monthly income distributions, capital funding, and financial reports prepared by third‑party property accountants in accordance with GAAP.
  • Perform monthly intercompany cash clearing reconciliations and quarterly capital funding reconciliations to fixed asset reports.
  • Prepare quarterly NOI (Net Operating Income) analyses.
  • Understand SLR rent processes, identify discrepancies, and resolve errors efficiently.
  • Partner with Asset Management, Property Management, Tax, and internal/external auditors to support audits and tax compliance.
  • Analyze and resolve issues in capital accounts, distributions, and partner equity transactions.
  • Assist in process improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy and efficiency across accounting workflows.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation ensuring adherence to internal controls and company policies.
  • Participate in ad hoc accounting projects and special assignments as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in investment accounting, fund accounting, or real estate accounting.
  • Strong understanding of partnership accounting and capital reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Yardi or equivalent).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and experience supporting audits.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with real estate investments or private equity funds.
  • Familiarity with partnership and LLC tax reporting requirements.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification.

Deal Breakers

  • Inability to work the required hybrid schedule.
  • Lack of motivation or unwillingness to work extended hours when needed.
  • Poor communication skills (written or verbal).
  • Inability to handle sensitive or confidential information.

Interview Process

Round 1: Initial one-on-one video interview with hiring manager

Round 2: Panel interview with two senior stakeholders (video or in-person preferred)
