CSuite Financial Partners has been retained by our client, a Artificial Intelligence Software Development company, to place their first Controller, to their rapidly growing leadership team.

This Controller role is a hybrid role, located either in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY. The hybrid expectation carries and expectation of in-office Tues-Thurs.

The company's AI transforms how organizations track, analyze, describe, and optimize their most valuable resource: time. By automating work time and connecting time data to business outcomes, Laurel enables firms to increase profitability, improve client delivery, and make data-driven strategic decisions.

Having recently announced a recent $100 million Series C funding led by IVP, with participation from GV (Google Ventures) and 01A, to bring their total funds raised to date to $150 million, our client will leverage this investment to scale its AI Time platform and accelerate to solve what it calls the "time intelligence challenge"- the inability for knowledge industries to accurately map time to business outcomes.

About the Role

Our client looking for a highly experienced Controller to join their team. This is a critical leadership position in Finance, responsible for owning the entire accounting function, reporting on company finances, and driving process optimization. You'll work cross-functionally with stakeholders across the business, helping to take the accounting function from 0 to 1 and ensuring the company is positioned for scale.

What you'll do

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and compliance.
• Lead the planning, execution and completion of annual external financial audits; manage relationships with auditors and resolve issues proactively.
• Own preparation and delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
• Implement and improve accounting systems, internal controls, and processes to support scale and efficiency; identify opportunities for automation.
• Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; partner with Legal, HR, and Operations to ensure smooth financial workflows.

Ideal Candidate

• 5+ years of Accounting background
• Actively/Recently working as a Controller or Assistant Controller
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting
• Hold a CPA license
• Strong experience overseeing all accounting operations (GL, AR/AP, revenue recognition, payroll and compliance)
• Experience scaling accounting functions in a high-growth start-up (required)
• Experience at a B2B SaaS company
• Experience leading full-cycle end-to-end audits & possess strong technical accounting skills with deep GAAP knowledge
• Embracing a technology-first approach to scale, particularly deploying AI and automation tools to modernize finance processes.
• Experience with Big 4 or Mid-Tier Accounting audit (nice-to-have)
• Experience at an AI company (nice-to-have)
• Seated in either San Francisco or New York, with the ability to be in-office Tues-Thurs (must)
