Under the supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor, the 1930 Warehouse Worker performs a variety of manual tasks related to the operations of the school district warehouse; completes pick requests and organizes materials for delivery; receives, stores, and delivers materials, supplies, and equipment; keeps inventory records; performs related duties as required.

The Warehouse Worker performs unskilled and semi-skilled manual tasks in connection with the District's Warehouse, including the receipt of orders from vendors, placement of stock in storage, readying of orders for distribution, and delivery to facilities. They may be assigned to duties either within the warehouse or at various school buildings as necessary. The nature of the work may require considerable physical effort, heavy lifting, and manual dexterity. The Warehouse Worker is required to drive vans and trucks and operate a forklift.

Essential Duties

The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.

As the Warehouse Worker you will:

  • Receives, stores, issues, delivers and takes inventory of materials, supplies, equipment and mail in a school warehouse; places furniture, merchandise and mail in the warehouse in an orderly manner using material handling equipment (not limited to a hand truck or forklift).
  • Replaces light bulbs in a variety of light fixtures, may need to climb ladders or scaffolding to change bulbs in gymnasiums and auditoriums.
  • Installs, services and inspects all types of fire extinguisher, fire hoses, fire cabinets and fire curtains; replaces fusible links on smoke doors in auditorium stages and other fire prevention equipment.
  • Delivers, transfers and arranges furniture and equipment to classroom and conference rooms; picks up old furniture for disposal; renewal, or storage.
  • Assembles, installs, adjusts and makes minor repairs to school furniture and metal lockers used in schools.
  • Hand-trucks or carries equipment and other heavy stores about a warehouse; maintains in a warehouse, equipment and other stores.
  • May maintain or make minor repairs to relevant equipment including forklifts, hand trucks, and other equipment as necessary.
  • Delivers equipment and supplies and picks up stock for disposal or renewal; unloads equipment and supplies from trucks and vans and delivers same to the warehouse for storage.
  • Keeps accurate record of deliveries and distribution of a large inventory of equipment and supplies electronically.
  • Reports accurate information to the Warehouse Supervisor on deliveries, distribution, and supplies in stock frequently.
  • Keeps warehouse organized and clean

The Ideal Candidate will have:
• Experience in a large warehouse with responsibility for keeping inventory, maintaining accurate records, and providing reports to supervisors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• License and experience operating a forklift and large vans and pickup trucks
• Experience working in a school setting
• Knowledge of regulations concerning storage and transportation of hazardous materials

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination) .

Experience: One (1) year of experience in a variety of general maintenance, repair or warehousing work.

License and Certification: Possession of a valid California driver's license.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The nature of the work may require considerable physical effort, heavy lifting and manual dexterity. The incumbent may be assigned to duties either within the warehouse or at various school buildings as necessary.
