The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking a qualified Sheet Metal Supervisor I to lead and supervise skilled trades staff in both sheet metal and ironwork operations. This position is responsible for overseeing the fabrication, installation, and repair of metal components including railings, fencing, doors, custom fixtures, HVAC ductwork, furnaces and other structural elements essential to maintaining safe, comfortable and secure school facilities.
By ensuring the integrity and safety of school infrastructure, the Sheet Metal Supervisor I plays a vital role in creating and maintaining a safe, functional, and supportive environment for students, staff, and the broader school community.
Essential Duties The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.
As the Sheet Metal Supervisor I , you will:
- Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the work of sheet metal workers and others engaged in various aspects of the trade.
- Maintains time records, work requisitions, and material supply logs for the purpose of tracking workflow.
- Estimates the labor and material costs of sheet metal fabrication, modification, repair, and/or installation for the purpose of maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs.
- Recommends the selection and purchase of various sheet metal tools and materials.
- Requisitions tools and materials for various sheet metal work assignments.
- Supervises the storage, care, inventory and maintenance of various tools and materials.
- Provides instruction on safety methods and procedures for the purpose of creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Participates in the actual work of the trade, when needed and/or instructed.
- Meets with prospective stakeholders to explain details of projects.
- Drives city vehicles to various work sites to oversee work of Sheet Metal Workers.
Job-Related and Essential Qualifications: Knowledge of: journey-level sheet metal practices and procedures, tools and materials used in the trade, cost estimation practices; safety practices and procedures including CAL-OSHA regulations and applicable sections of the City's Safety Rule Book.
Ability to: perform supervisory responsibilities; communicate verbally and in written format; prepare and maintain accurate records and reports; establish and maintain good working relationships; and drive city vehicles.
Nature of work requires working out in the field at a variety of job sites and under potentially hazardous conditions, such as in and around raw sewage, at great heights, in all weather conditions, in cramped or enclosed areas, lifting heavy equipment and materials. Work shifts may vary and may include weekend and night work.
Minimum Qualifications Experience and Training Guidelines:
- Ten years experience as a journey-level sheet metal worker OR
- Five years experience as a journey-level sheet metal worker AND Completion of a recognized sheet metal worker's apprenticeship program (in the Building Trades or Shipyard Sheet Metal Apprentice Programs)
License:
- California driver's license
