Our mission is to break the slow, iterative loop of hardware development by enabling engineers to test and refine electronics at the speed of thought. Our reconfigurable circuit technology transforms months of waiting into moments of discovery, accelerating the pace of electronic innovation. We are a team of experienced founders and engineers who have worked at companies like Uber, Verkada, Amazon, and Google. We have shipped code that runs on Mars, scaled the largest web services, changed the way people get around cities, and secured top-secret data for the US government. We are backed by exceptional investors who are committed to creating the next category-defining company. Our days are spent solving tough manufacturing, physics, and design challenges at the nano to macro scale.
We envision a world where anyone can build unprecedented electronics by making hardware creation as accessible and rapid as software development. By building the most comprehensive understanding of how electronic components truly behave, we will fundamentally transform how humanity designs and builds technology.
Passion for your Craft: Show us your personal projects, your passions, your reason for being an engineer. We look for a maker's attitude and willingness to take on any challenge.
Learner's Mindset: We focus on learning and thrive in an environment with hard problems and frequent feedback. This role will stretch both the depth and breadth of your skills. You will work with amazing people on an incredible mission and learn by doing new things. As an early team member, you will be expected to innovate and establish the culture of the company.
High Standards & Continuous Self Improvement: We have high expectations colored by optimism. We prioritize learning, experiment often, and admit when we're wrong. We are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and we value people who are comfortable with the unknown and want to figure things out together. We are seeking someone intellectually honest who will hold us accountable yet retains a healthy disregard for the impossible.
Strong fundamentals: You know when to follow design rules and when to break them. You understand the principles of heat and mass transfer and can leverage them to design creative solutions within the constraints of what is manufacturable.
As Senior Mechanical Engineer you will work hands-on in the lab in San Francisco and with our vendors to optimize the manufacturing methods and processes as we scale. You will be responsible for developing precision assembly systems that manage heat transfer, optical curing, mechanical compression, and material alignment at micron-scale tolerances. You'll work closely with materials, electronics, and manufacturing teams to bring our lab-scale process into a repeatable, scalable production environment.
Design and validate the mechanical process for stacking and laminating multilayer ultrathin glass substrates with embedded electronics.
Develop fixturing, alignment, and compression systems ensuring planarity and bond integrity.
Establish heating, optical curing, and pressure profiles for reliable interlayer bonding without material distortion.
Model and simulate heat transfer, stress, and mechanical deformation in assemblies to guide process optimization.
Define and optimize the assembly line architecture for throughput, reliability, and safety.
Specify and qualify assembly equipment (presses, curing systems, alignment stages, vacuum systems, transfer stages, etc.).
Create detailed process documentation: SOPs, control plans, PFMEAs, and assembly drawings.
Draft specs and drive vendor and equipment evaluations
Support scale-up from prototype fixtures to pilot-line and full production tooling.
BS or MS in mechanical engineering or related field
5 years of experience in precision assembly or manufacturing design
Strong foundation in statics and design for manufacturing (DFM)
Experience with assembly line design, process validation, and DOEs
Excellent intuition of stress/strain curves and physics of materials
Working knowledge of tolerance analysis and statistical quality tools
Knowledge of process automation and bottleneck analysis
Proficiency in CAD for mechanical modeling
Comfort working in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment.
Experience with semiconductor or optoelectronic packaging
Familiarity with robot training using a teach pendant, G code, or machine vision
Experience with vacuum or inert atmosphere processing
If you don't meet the exact requirements but have other reasons why you think you would be a good fit, we encourage you to apply and tell us about them. All applications will be reviewed and receive a response from a human.
