About the Role

Join our Board of Directors and play a crucial role in shaping the future of space and science engagement! As a member of our leadership team, you will guide strategic initiatives, enhance community outreach, and drive impactful decisions that align with our mission. We are looking for dynamic leaders to step into committee roles and help expand our programs. Board Members are expected to commit 2-5 hours each week, contributing to meetings, committee leadership, and community engagement. A modest annual financial contribution is also requested, reflecting our dedication to sustainability. To ensure effective governance, no more than three board members may live outside the region.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with fellow board members to establish, review, and guide strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to enhance our organizational capacity and volunteer network.
  • Act as an ambassador by engaging with donors, community partners, and the public to promote our mission.
  • Chair or actively participate in one or more committees, helping to build and support volunteer teams.
  • Assist fundraising and donor relations efforts alongside the Development Committee.
  • Contribute to marketing, outreach, and program planning initiatives to facilitate science and space education for all ages.

Committee Opportunities

We are seeking Board Members to help lead the following committees:

  • Donor Development: Build relationships with current and prospective donors, manage outreach and donor database, assist in grant writing, and collaborate on fundraising campaigns.
  • Marketing: Develop and execute marketing strategies, oversee event promotion, community engagement, and manage branding efforts.
  • Building & Collections: Track inventory and oversee telescope refurbishments; maintain relationships with builders and real estate contacts.
  • Programs: Design and manage educational programs, oversee community outreach events, and collaborate with volunteers for successful staffing.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven leadership or professional experience with a passion for community impact and science education.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences in a team environment.
  • A commitment of 2-5 hours weekly for meetings and community involvement.
  • Dedication to our mission and values, including a willingness to contribute financially.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit governance, fundraising, marketing, education, STEM outreach, or community development.
  • Background in program development, volunteer coordination, or event planning.
  • Existing connections in the region or willingness to build local relationships.
