Position Overview

Salary range: UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. Current full‑time salary range is $70,977$199,722.

Percent time: generally part‑time; 5 – 100%.

Anticipated start: Spring 2026 or later.

Review timeline: Completed applications are reviewed when openings arise. Spring openings are typically reviewed July–October; fall openings February–June.

Position duration: May be for one semester or a full academic year, with renewal based on need, funding, and performance.

Position Description

Berkeley Law is a premier law school with demanding, hands‑on programs. Lecturers and field‑work supervisors are expected to demonstrate strong commitment to academic rigor and intellectual diversity.

Courses include Labor, Technology, Business Law, International Law, Environmental Law, Social Justice, Criminal Law, and related specialties.

Teaching responsibilities include preparing syllabi, maintaining course websites, holding office hours, assessing student work, assigning grades, and advising students.

UC lecturers and field‑work supervisors are represented by the American Federation of Teachers – Unit 18.

Qualifications

  • Basic qualification (required at time of application): Bachelor's degree, or equivalent international degree.
  • Additional qualifications (required at start):
    • J.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., LL.M. or Master's degree, and a minimum of three years of professional experience in legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law‑school teaching in the U.S.;
    • or Bachelor's degree and a minimum of six years of such experience in the U.S.;
    • Availability to teach in‑person during required class times.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Experience teaching at a U.S. law school with outstanding student evaluations;
    • Five or more years of U.S. or foreign legal practice experience in criminal law.
