Job Title: Structural Analysis Engineer - ESS

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA

About The Job

Peak Energy is looking for a Staff Structural Analysis Engineer to lead the aid the development of our gigawatt‑scale energy storage system. This person will be a key stakeholder in structural design decisions, from architecture to optimization to validation. They will work with internal design and manufacturing partners, along with external partners, to provide engineering trades and guidance, bringing a practical and can‑do attitude to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and inform Energy Storage System structural design by defining relevant loading conditions, analysis, and validation strategy.
  • Perform detailed static and dynamic structural analysis of systems and components, determining stress, strain, frequency response, and fatigue characteristics using first principles, hand calculations, and FEA.
  • Propose design modifications to enhance structural reliability and performance.
  • Develop and validate simulation models for structural analysis using advanced computational tools such as FEA.
  • Design and oversee experimental tests to validate models and predictions, working with test engineers to analyze and correlate test data.
  • Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including development, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
  • Present analysis results and recommendations to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Drive and participate in a culture of rapid prototyping and testing with a team spirit and get‑it‑done attitude.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD, or Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, aerospace, or structural engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience working with large‑scale structural and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in simulation software such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, or similar.
  • Proficiency in pre‑ and post‑processing software such as HyperMesh, ANSA, or similar.
  • Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high‑volume products.
  • Experience with hands‑on testing and model validation.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in a related field.
  • Experience with transportation durability, random vibration, and road load analysis.
  • Experience with fatigue analysis software such as nCode, Fe‑Safe, or similar.
  • Experience with seismic simulation.
  • Experience working with HV switch gear.
  • Experience working with large‑scale battery storage systems.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $140,000 – $175,000, depending on experience and skills. Benefits include flexible time off, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a strong 401(k) plan, and equity opportunities. Equity opportunities are part of the compensation package.
