What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a talented Engineer to innovate in the realm of interior lighting, switches, and haptics technology. This role involves working on a lean and agile team alongside world‑class designers and engineers to drive full‑system design. Responsibilities span from concept definition during the industrial design phase to prototype creation, production design release, and launch across multiple Tesla programs. Collaboration with cross‑functional teams ensures the delivery of cutting‑edge solutions that balance form, function, performance, and cost.

What You'll Do

  • Engineer, develop, and execute world‑class interior lighting and switch assembly systems that meet styling intent and comply with regulatory requirements
  • Create novel designs to integrate new technologies that align with design themes and compliance standards
  • Collaborate with design, styling, and engineering teams to provide critical input early in the product development cycle
  • Engage in an iterative process with stakeholders to achieve an optimal balance of form, function, performance, and cost
  • Direct engineering development with Tesla teams and suppliers to ensure successful execution
  • Maintain all necessary product development documentation
  • Support cross‑functional integration of interior lighting and switches by working with teams such as body, exteriors, 12V electronics, manufacturing, supply chain, and supplier engineers to achieve technically feasible designs

What You'll Bring

  • Strong first‑principles and physics‑based thinking with problem‑solving skills for challenges of varying scope and complexity
  • Familiarity with the latest lighting, switch, and haptics technologies, including capacitive touch, time of flight, and OLED
  • Experience with complex assemblies, including PCBA, sensors, flexible assemblies, and enclosures
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing principles, including GD&T, assembly, and dimensional engineering in design
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling within a product development environment, with design experience in CATIA V5/V6 strongly preferred
  • Understanding of prototyping, production techniques, analysis, and validation, with experience in plastics part design and manufacturing processes as an advantage
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
