About the Team
Stripe's Global Partnerships Counsel team sets the legal strategy for Stripe's partner ecosystem. We advise financial institutions, payment networks, and technology partners, building and scaling the enterprise‑wide legal framework that enables our products to grow.
What You'll Do
In this role you will be a key advisor to partnerships and product teams, working on a diverse set of transactions and relationships involving financial services, business processes, and technology.
Responsibilities
- Counsel Stripe's global partnerships teams to build and grow relationships with financial institutions, payment methods, card networks, and technology partners.
- Collaborate with payments, treasury, product, and engineering teams to structure, draft, and negotiate key infrastructure deals and manage existing partner relationships.
- Coordinate with product, engineering, compliance, risk, privacy, and marketing to ensure deals support current and future product development.
- Scale deals and products by drafting, reviewing, and updating foundational documents for partners, applying payment network rules, regulations, and contractual commitments.
- Stay up to date on laws and regulations related to privacy, data security, consumer protection, financial services, and marketing.
- Serve as a proactive business partner to senior leaders and build relationships as a trusted advisor.
- Manage outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions to ensure timely and knowledgeable support of critical deals.
Minimum Requirements
- 7+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer in a law firm or in-house legal team, preferably with financial institutions or technology companies on high‑value transactions.
- Strong negotiating and drafting skills, able to identify and communicate practical, risk‑based solutions as the lead negotiator and drafter of business‑critical agreements.
- Broad legal knowledge to resolve issues in transactions across multiple jurisdictions (contract, financial services regulatory, IP, privacy, consumer protection).
- Experience counseling product teams, technical teams, and non-lawyers on deal structure and its application to team goals.
- Passion for technology and ability to quickly understand complex business models and product use cases.
- Qualified U.S. lawyer.
- Excellent judgment, oral and written English communication skills, project management abilities, and capacity to juggle competing priorities under tight deadlines.
Hybrid Work & Location
This role may be performed in an office or remotely (35+ miles / 56+ km from a Stripe office). Remote employees are expected to work from home regularly; office‑assigned staff spend at least 50% of their time in the local office.
Pay and Benefits
Annual U.S. base salary range: $178,200 – $267,200. Additional benefits include equity, bonus or sales commissions, 401(k), medical, dental, vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
