Project Kuiper Overview
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low‑latency, high‑speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
The Kuiper Security team owns the security of product and operations of Project Kuiper end‑to‑end. We provide the necessary infrastructure and mechanisms to ensure the security of our satellite constellation and to protect the integrity and confidentiality of our customer data. Our team drives the research, deployment and operation of several mission‑critical security systems and mechanisms. You will work in a start‑up like environment, backed by Amazon's infrastructure to bootstrap security mechanisms, and help instill the security culture in the organization.
Export Control Requirement
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Define, develop and implement Kuiper's detection pipeline.
- Advocate for the creation & deployment of new testing tools and detection mechanisms.
- Leverage support from automation teams to discover relevant vulnerabilities.
- Identify design & implementation defects and build compensating detective controls.
- Provide security consultation on difficult decisions throughout product development processes.
- Collaborate with business leaders to define security priorities and act as a trusted advisor.
- Help leaders measure their organization's security execution and guide teams toward safe product outcomes.
- Assess technical debt and risk with builder teams, providing strategic direction to address vulnerabilities.
- Instill a security culture in builder teams, mentoring aspiring security advocates through 1‑1 sessions and office hours.
- Assist Red Teams in identifying security testing priorities, scoping penetration tests, and conducting deep‑dives.
- Investigate emerging security issues, root cause them, and devise detection mechanisms.
- Enjoy hacking cutting‑edge technology.
A Day in the Life
In this highly dynamic role, you will be accountable for deciding where your time investments provide the most value. You will build preventive and detective controls, evaluate overall org performance, and propose new security scanning capabilities to correct problems in the organization. You'll ask questions such as:
- “What's the paved path for vulnerability management?”
- “We need to define security requirements for a confidential new product launch.”
- “We've experienced an incident and need to perform 5‑why analysis to identify and correct the problem that produced the incident.”
You will help Amazon maintain a high bar for customer security.

Basic Qualifications
- Experience (non‑internship) in troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating complex tasks using command line tools.
- Experience (non‑internship) in industry‑based security vulnerabilities identification, attack patterns, and remediation techniques.
- 2+ years of full secure software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- 4+ years of scripting, programming, and security code review experience in common programming languages.
- 5+ years of experience in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans.
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing security products.
- Experience applying threat modeling or other risk identification techniques.
- Experience with security in service‑oriented architectures/microservices and web services.
