Overview

Creative Arts Charter School (CACS) is seeking a passionate, equity-driven leader to serve as Temporary Director of Middle School (Grades 6–8). This full-time temporary position starting as soon as possible with an expected duration October 2025 through April 2026, with possibility of extension. The role leads a collaborative, student-centered middle school team in an arts-integrated K–8 community.

Temporary Director of Middle School (Grades 6–8)

Role Overview

The Temporary Director of Middle School will provide day-to-day leadership and support for all aspects of our grades 6–8 program, including instructional coaching, staff development, student behavior systems, and family engagement. Works with the Executive Director, Lower School Director, and Inclusion & Wellness Teams to ensure middle school learners thrive academically, socially, and artistically in alignment with the CACS mission, values, and Portrait of a Graduate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership: Observe, coach, and support middle school teaching staff (including co-planning, co-teaching, modeling, and feedback).
  • Facilitate weekly middle school team meetings and individual coaching check-ins.
  • Oversee report card writing and support standards-aligned, equitable grading.
  • Collaborate with arts teachers to support project-based, arts-integrated learning.
  • Support and monitor academic intervention plans in partnership with the Wellness and Inclusion teams.

Student Support & School Culture

  • Lead behavior systems across 6th–8th grade, including restorative conversations, reentry meetings, and logical consequences.
  • Collaborate with the Wellness Team, SPED staff, and afterschool partners to support social-emotional learning and behavior needs.
  • Lead the high school transition process and organize 8th grade events, fundraisers, field trips, and graduation.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with families through Schoology, email, and in-person meetings.
  • Represent the middle school program at info nights, family events, and school-wide functions.
  • Act as a liaison between students, staff, and families to resolve concerns and support student growth.
  • Help implement academic and social-emotional programming in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Monitor and respond to academic data (e.g., grades, assessments, report cards).
  • Manage the middle school calendar and major events (e.g., puberty education, 8th-grade trip, graduation).
  • Participate in middle school budget planning and management.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid California teaching credential
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching or credentialed service
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting
  • Experience in a diverse, progressive K–8 or charter school
  • Knowledge of arts integration, project-based learning, and inclusive practices
  • Strong restorative justice mindset and community-building skills

Preferred

  • Valid or in-progress California administrative credential
  • Bilingual (especially Spanish)

Salary: Monthly salary $8,000–$10,000, based on experience and qualifications

Schedule
