The Director of Social Responsibility leads the Port's efforts in community relations, social responsibility, and community-focused initiatives. This executive role oversees programs in workforce development and community partnerships, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations that advance the Port's mission of equitable economic growth. The Director reports directly to the Chief Public Engagement Officer and works closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Port Commissioners, Port departments, external boards and commissions, and the private sector.

The ideal candidate will bring a proven ability to develop and lead high-performing teams, instill a shared vision, and establish clear priorities that align with the Port's mission and community values. They will have deep expertise in workforce development, with a track record of connecting local residents with employers and opportunities. They will be adept at designing and evaluating programs for effectiveness, recommending updates to legacy policies, and introducing creative approaches to community engagement. The next Director will have a strong grasp of compliance requirements, including federally mandated programs, Title VI coordination, and disadvantaged/local business utilization opportunities. They must understand compliance frameworks well enough to oversee processes, guide staff, and ensure adherence to policies. This role requires a relationship-builder who can earn trust quickly in Oakland's diverse communities, navigate sensitive cultural and political contexts, and enhance collaborative partnerships. The successful candidate will be proactive rather than reactiveengaging with internal divisions early to integrate social responsibility into the Port's wide array of programs and projects.
