Job Description

We're looking for a curious, rigorous, problem‑hungry platform engineer (who codes!) to carry the ball as we bring Ashby to the big leagues. Ashby builds software that lets talent teams build an efficient, delightful, respectful hiring process. Similarly, you're an engineer who wants to build a “paved road” that excellent engineering teams can safely take to the moon and back. We have notable customers such as Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake.

We'll share more details once we meet, but you probably have a good idea as to why we're hiring for this role. We've listed this role twice: as a Platform Engineer and Site Reliability Engineer – our team does both, and we are open to candidates who lean toward either.

Responsibilities

  • Own end‑to‑end infrastructure projects and ship with minimal oversight.
  • Optimize the home‑grown dynamic recruiting DSL‑to‑SQL compiler and create developer tooling.
  • Implement automated guardrails for security and privacy of customer data.
  • Support fast feature delivery through canary deployments, gradual rollouts, and feature flags.
  • Define SLOs and implement SLIs, ensuring robust retry logic and circuit‑breakers for external services.
  • Build the infrastructure supporting an event‑driven architecture and data warehouse.
  • Drive reliability, flexibility, and scalability of our platform while maintaining developer experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a platform or site reliability engineer, preferably in a fast‑growth startup environment.
  • Strong coding skills in TypeScript, Node.js, and experience with GraphQL, Postgres, Redis.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS) and observability tools (Datadog, Sentry).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and canary deployments.
  • Comfort with security, privacy, and compliance requirements for customer data.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in an async, remote culture.

Technical Stack

  • TypeScript (front‑end & back‑end)
  • Node.js, React, Apollo GraphQL
  • PostgreSQL, Redis
  • AWS cloud infrastructure; Datadog and Sentry for observability

Interview Process

  • Intro call with Hiring Manager (15‑30 min)
  • Technical screen with pair‑programming on real code (1 h)
  • Three non‑coding interviews focusing on design, debugging, and infrastructure (total 3 h 15 min)
  • No leetcode or whiteboard exercises; emphasis on collaboration and writing practices

Onboarding

On day one, your dev environment is set up with a single script and you ship your first product change. Over the next three months, you will work closely with engineering, product, and design to deliver impactful features while building deeper domain knowledge of our platform.
