Location: Berkeley, CA

Overview

Join the Architecture Department as a Graduate Student Affairs Officer (GSAO) to support graduate students in academic advising, admissions, financial aid, and outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Advising & Student Services (45%): advise students on policies, progress, and requirements; evaluate petitions; provide academic counseling; liaise with the International Office and Graduation Division; produce weekly newsletter.
  • Recruitment & Admissions (25%): develop outreach programs; advise prospective applicants; evaluate transcripts; coordinate recruitment visits; manage Graduate Admissions Ambassadors; update recruitment materials.
  • Faculty Committees / Department Policy (15%): meet with Chair and MSO; advise on policies; serve on committees; develop program recommendations.
  • Financial Aid (10%): administer fellowships, grants, scholarships; advise students on aid and fellowships.
  • Other (5%): plan events, coordinate programming, conduct exit surveys, pursue professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with advising and counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge of recruiting and admissions practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Problem‑solving and multicultural competencies.
  • Detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (equivalent experience acceptable).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with Slate and SIS systems.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment procedures.
  • Project management experience.

Salary & Benefits

Annual salary range: $74,000 – $83,500 (position range $63,000 – $108,400). Full range provided on UC Berkeley Compensation & Benefits website.
