Discord is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join its Data team, where you'll design and build scalable data infrastructure that directly impacts decisions across analytics, machine learning, product development, and more. This is a high-impact role that focuses on building foundational datasets, optimizing pipelines, and ensuring data quality for a platform used by over 200 million monthly users.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and Maintain Data Pipelines: Design and implement robust, production-grade pipelines that support analytics, experimentation, and ML workflows.
• Develop Foundational Datasets: Create scalable, accurate datasets that power decision-making across the company.
• Design Scalable Architectures: Work with complex, massive datasets to create systems that balance performance with cost.
• Improve Data Instrumentation: Partner with product and engineering teams to increase accuracy, reliability, and coverage of data collection.
• Implement Data Quality Monitoring: Build audits, alerts, and anomaly detection for proactive data integrity checks.
• Support Business with Dashboards: Deliver actionable dashboards and reporting tools that enable teams to track KPIs and make informed decisions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to meet diverse data needs.

What You Should Have

• 4+ years of experience building scalable data pipelines in production with large consumer datasets.
• 4+ years designing and maintaining data models across structured and unstructured sources.
• Expertise in SQL and Python for data manipulation and pipeline development.
• Proven experience handling massive datasets (billions of rows) and building systems to maintain their quality.
• Experience with data auditing, anomaly detection, and performance tuning for ETL systems.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills in ambiguous and evolving environments.
• Collaboration experience with cross-functional teams including data science, ML, and product engineering.
• A collaborative mindset, curiosity, and enthusiasm for tackling complex problems.

Bonus Qualifications

• Passion for Discord or online communities.
• Ownership of data architecture for functional areas using scalable, performant patterns.
• Familiarity with tools like BigQuery, Airflow, DBT, Looker, Tableau, etc.
• Experience supporting experimentation platforms or real-time analytics.
• Base Salary (U.S.): $196,000 – $220,500
• Additional: Equity + Benefits
