Job Summary

The position applies professional financial analysis concepts and organizational policies to resolve a variety of issues of limited to moderate scope, focusing primarily on financial reporting, data integrity, and compliance within a large, multi‑site academic health care environment. The analyst will prepare and present basic financial and resource reports for internal department constituents, utilizing data extracted directly from specialized institutional systems such as the School of Medicine's PLUS Budgeting tool and MyReports. Responsibilities include ensuring integrity of resource allocations, applying University‑wide accounting and business policies, executing judgment within defined procedures, and supporting the monthly General Ledger Verification and reconciliation processes. The analyst works closely with other analysts and administrative staff to maintain financial controls in a high‑volume environment.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $30.51 - $65.18 per hour (Step Hourly Rate). Final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Department Description

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF provides outstanding patient care, promotes cutting‑edge basic and clinical science research, and educates the next generation of health care providers while focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The department has an annual budget of $145 million, with major revenue streams from Professional Fee Income and Extramural Funds. It is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine, supporting extensive clinical and research activities across multiple campuses.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a highly decentralized, matrix organization structure, such as a large academic health care/research institution.
  • Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Ability to gather information, organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to interpret and apply specific University‑wide accounting and business policies (e.g., UC purchasing policies) to ensure transaction compliance and proper internal controls.
  • Team‑work ability.
  • Intermediate knowledge of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
  • Functional knowledge of key financial platforms, including BearBuy, MyExpense, and the General Ledger Verification (GLV) system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit, service orientation, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and multi‑task in a high‑volume environment.
  • Proficiency in using PLUS (School of Medicine Microsoft Access database budget tool) for financial data extraction, forecast updating, and analytical reporting support.
  • Working knowledge of TimeTable for supporting faculty salary funding calculations and reconciliation.
