Overview
The Database Administrator will be an integral member of the Database Services team within the Platform Services domain. The role partners with diverse team members to solve multidimensional information technology problems, improve customer experience, and generate value for campus stakeholders across departments. Responsibilities include supporting databases, including schema definition, structure, and long-range requirements, and facilitating the development of documentation, data security measures, and operational guidelines and protection. The position is full-time and requires strong Oracle skills; candidates with strong Oracle skills are highly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Assist design, creation, optimization, and maintenance of IT databases.
- Profile application workloads, identify application and infrastructure interdependencies, and facilitate secure database delivery.
- Implement and maintain stringent security protocols to protect University data.
- Serve as the first line of defense to diagnose and resolve database issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Collaborate with customers, partners, and stakeholders in academic, medical, and research organizations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of experience/training, in computer science, engineering, computer information systems, or related field.
- 1 to 3+ years of experience in information technology, database architecture, or software development.
- Experience with database technologies (Oracle, SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or equivalent).
- Experience in data modeling and translation to high-performance physical database designs; fluent SQL optimization.
- Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows system administration; strong PowerShell and/or Unix shell scripting skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong customer service skills with ability to triage and escalate as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Database Administrator certification (Microsoft, Oracle, or equivalent).
- Experience designing high-volume databases for enterprise-grade solutions; understanding current application development methodologies.
- Knowledge of virtualization to support scalable, multi-tenant SaaS offerings.
- Ability to interpret and apply service level agreements, policies, procedures, and regulations into actionable outcomes.
- Expertise in Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Access, and cloud database services.
