Job Summary

Associate Attorney in Evictions Litigation reporting directly to the Managing Partner of Evictions and the firm's National Eviction Outsourcing Platform. The attorney will work alongside support staff and carry an independent caseload across the State of California. The ideal candidate has been licensed in California for close to or more than five years, is comfortable with court hearings and motion practice, and has experience or additional licensure in Oregon and Washington. Candidates with a minimum of two years' experience in plaintiff or defense‑side eviction law, or related experience representing landlords, tenants, creditors and/or loan servicers are encouraged to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Handle all aspects of eviction cases in California (and possibly Oregon and Washington).
  • Attend court hearings (when practical or via virtual platforms).
  • Prepare and review documentation required for eviction cases in California (and possibly Oregon and Washington).
  • Draft civil litigation documents ranging from discovery to dispositive motions and client correspondence.
  • Have functional knowledge of Rent Control or Stabilization Ordinances and Just Cause Ordinances, with a desire to become an expert.
  • Jury trial experience is a plus.
  • Think on your feet and quickly shift task‑to‑task depending on daily needs.
  • Answer staff questions and assist in an affable manner.
  • Write, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, alerts, bulletins, and articles for client notification and compliance purposes.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not require direct supervisory responsibilities; however, you will manage a caseload in conjunction with assigned staff as the responsible attorney.

Education & Work Experience

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, particularly landlord/tenant rights.
  • Active membership in the CA State Bar in good standing (active membership in the OR or WA states bars is a bonus).
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide a positive company image to the public.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of related experience in landlord/tenant evictions, post‑foreclosure evictions, or legal aid in defense of tenants, with willingness to represent landlords vigorously; five years or more is a strong plus.

  • Remote work proficiency and ability to work efficiently from home or office.
  • Motivated self‑starter, multi‑tasker, detail‑oriented, flexible and personable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ownership of assigned caseload.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, technology, telephone and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to communicate respectfully with clients, legal aid representatives, attorneys, colleagues, real estate agents, property preservation crews, sheriffs or deputies and various outside parties.
  • Work collaboratively in a congenial, team‑oriented manner.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information efficiently.
  • Know when to escalates an issue to management.
  • Balance team and individual responsibilities; contribute to a positive team spirit.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail; look for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Flexibility and adaptability for fast and high growth potential.
  • Organizational skills; ability to multi‑task and adapt to continual change.
  • Proficiency in internet research, including Westlaw and/or LexisNexis.

Physical Demands

Must sit, talk, or hear frequently; occasionally stand, walk, use hands for finger, handle or feel; lift and or move up to 25 pounds; requires close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position is entirely remote; the firm's California office is located in Long Beach, CA.

Compensation

$120,000–$150,000/Annually DOE
