JOB DESCRIPTION
*** is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Mechanical Design Engineer, Sensor Integration NPI to support design, release, and sustaining work for the company's custom sensor modules used on its robotaxi platform.
In this role, you'll own the mechanical elements of the sensor pods-building and maintaining BOMs, updating and improving designs, and supporting both new product introduction (NPI) and sustaining activities. This role involves travel within the Bay Area to support on-site builds and supplier collaboration.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and highly skilled in CAD design (Catia V5/V6 preferred), with experience in automotive-grade electromechanical systems and product launches in high-volume manufacturing environments.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, Sensor Integration NPI, you'll:
Manage existing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and overall design configurations using CAD and PLM tools.
Work closely with PLM and manufacturing teams to release design changes and support smooth product rollouts.
Review existing product designs and propose hardware and process improvements for manufacturability, quality, and performance.
Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for issues arising during initial builds or in the field.
Design and build visual mockups, proofs of concept, and fixtures to support manufacturing teams.
Manage design and development activities across multiple internal and external suppliers to deliver complete electromechanical systems.
Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and quality personnel to ramp production processes and meet build and cost objectives.
Maintain BOMs, document and approve build processes, and support quality engineering throughout the supply chain.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
Intake Call 10/28 Top Skills: CAD design, specifically Catia V5/V6 New product launch and release automotive experience Traditional automotive background is ok This is work specifically on the sensor pods on the robotaxi, for context. The team owns the mechanical element of the pod. Listed as a 'New Product Introduction Engineer' as a way to describe the role. High production volume experience is important Creo/UG-NX(Siemens NX) are comparable to CAD for the design work but still prefer CAD/Catia as a 1st priority. The work is split between Design and Sustaining/Improvement work - initially will be about 80% Sustain, but over time the ratio will even out.
