Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and team-oriented Cook to join our school dining team. This role is unique in that it combines traditional cooking responsibilities with support duties across the kitchen and dishwashing areas. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in their work, and enjoys contributing to a collaborative, high-volume operation that serves more than 500 students daily.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM (some flexibility required).

Compensation: $22 / hour depending on experience.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare breakfast and lunch items in advance following established menus, recipes, and portion guidelines.
  • Set up and organize food trays and service stations before lunch service.
  • Maintain a clean and fully stocked buffet line during lunch hours, ensuring food safety and presentation standards are met.
  • Refill hot and cold food trays quickly and efficiently during high-volume meal periods.
  • Support the dishwashing station during and after meal service, including washing dishes, utensils, and trays using commercial equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations, buffet areas, and dining spaces throughout and after service.
  • Assist with end-of-day cleaning, restocking, and organizing supplies for the following day's meal prep.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow cooks, dishwashers, and servers to maintain smooth service flow and ensure timely meal delivery.
  • Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the overall success of the kitchen team.
What You Will Bring
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1-3 years of prior experience as a cook in a structured culinary environment
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to jump in wherever needed-no task is beneath you.
  • Previous experience in high-volume food service, cafeteria, or catering environment preferred.
  • Ability to work quickly and stay composed during fast-paced lunch service.
  • Commitment to teamwork, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • ServSafe® Certification and State Food Handlers Card
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • This job involves regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and a kitchen environment with fumes, airborne particles, and moderate noise. Employees must have the physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift trays, and perform repetitive tasks. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, and vibration may occur. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
