Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Senior Assistant Attorney General (SAAG), Chief Assistant Attorney General, Chief Deputy Attorney General, and the Attorney General, the Supervising Deputy Attorney General (SDAG) provides proactive, organized, detail‑oriented, hands‑on leadership, supervision, direction, training, and mentorship to a team of legal professionals that includes Deputy Attorneys General (DAGs) and paralegals.

The SDAG ensures that team members proactively and effectively litigate their assigned cases and produce high‑quality work efficiently. The SDAG may also perform legal work related to trials, appeals, and class actions before various federal and state courts.

In this position, the SDAG focuses on training, mentoring, and supervising the section's paralegals and newly hired DAGs, including Honors and Range DAGs. The SDAG also works on special projects under the guidance of the SAAG.

The SDAG handles general administrative, personnel, and management matters; interviews candidates for open positions; evaluates the performance of, and provides substantive input to, DAGs and paralegals, prepares probation reports and annual evaluations, and conducts progressive discipline as necessary. The SDAG works collaboratively and professionally with colleagues, section members, and support staff; maintains a professional and positive relationship with clients and courts; and exercises appropriate discretion in handling sensitive or privileged matters.
