Architectural Technical Leader - Civic & Justice
The Technical Leader is a Licensed Architect and Detention Specialist, accountable for the team's adherence to QA/QC procedures and documentation standards, ensuring a high level of technical proficiency and quality. As part of the office management team (and firm wide technical team), serves as the resident technical expert infusing technical excellence into the office culture. Mentors teams in document control practices to maintain superior quality in construction document content, development, and coordination in conjunction with recommendations made by firm technical committees. Establishes local and/or firm wide best technical practices, QA/QC processes, and document standards. Inspires innovative use of systems, products and technology through the introduction of new products, systems, and technologies. The Technical Leader's involvement includes input on staffing and performance and the ability to seal construction documents.
Experience in Civic & Justice building typologies is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has experience with projects such as: correctional facilities, detention centers, courthouses. Other preferred experience includes municipalities, police and fire stations, city and county buildings, and other public works/public safety buildings.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage QA/QC procedures consistent with Company protocols and project process requirements.
- Provide QA/QC reviews on larger projects and establish goals and expectations that lead to high quality construction documents.
- Lead and manage risk through the office QA/QC process and document control processes.
- Oversee space planning and construction document review for building code and ADA compliance as required.
- Review building and accessibility code reviews completed by teams or provide training as needed.
- Assist teams in working with local jurisdictions to address permit review comments and code interpretations.
- Review and comment on client contracts as requested.
- Foster a diverse and inclusive workforce and environment.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally; organize and prioritize tasks to meet timeframes.
- Lead initiatives that strengthen culture, knowledge base, and capabilities; create an environment that attracts and develops talent.
- Provide opportunities to utilize individual strengths for professional development and team performance; deliver feedback to inspire continuous learning.
- Lead learning programs (Town Halls, Lunch & Learns) on QA/QC practices and technical trends.
- Review and contribute to project proposal plans for appropriateness of team, deliverables, and durations against proposed fee.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Excellent understanding of building technology, documentation, and project delivery
- Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED, Well, EnergyStar guidelines
- Extensive knowledge of building construction, materials, and standards
- Extensive knowledge of zoning and building codes and ADAAG regulations
- Proficiency in Deltek Vision / Vantagepoint
- Proficiency in financial management concepts
- Good understanding of software used by project teams including: Newforma, Bluebeam, Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Grasshopper, ProCore, InDesign, Enscape, and CAD
- Strong communication skills: verbal, written, and graphic
- Self-motivated with strong management skills
- Innovative and creative problem solver with strong design skills
- In-depth knowledge of building codes and regulations to ensure permitting requirements are incorporated
- Basic knowledge of design trends, construction methodology, materials application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
- Experience across large-scale projects and various building/construction types
- Expert in construction administration management
Education / Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Architecture from an accredited university
- 20+ years of experience in architecture
- Experience as a Technical Director, Account Manager, and/or Senior Project Manager required
Certificates, Licenses Or Registrations Required
- Architecture license required in at least one state
Salary and Benefits
National salary range (regional cost of living, years of relevant experience, certifications, etc. are considered in the hiring process): $110,000 – $170,000; contingent upon relevant experience. Additional compensation includes bonuses and benefits. Bonuses can include Long Term Incentive Plan, Short Term Incentive Plan, Profit Sharing.
