Description:

Senior Electrical Engineer, Exo-organ Devices

Salary: 150,000-200,000 + very generous equity

Seniority level: Mid-Senior.

Employment type: Full-time.

Overview

Join a bold and interdisciplinary team at the frontier of tissue engineering at our labs in San Francisco, CA. We are developing biohybrid systems to replace and augment human organ function that are encapsulated and do not require invasive transplantation: exo-organs.

What You'll Do
  • Design, prototype, and iterate the electronic and control subsystems of our exo-organ devices
  • Identify, test, and integrate a variety of in-line and on-line sensors for real-time monitoring of flow, nutrient levels, pH, oxygen, and electrolytes
  • Design analog and digital circuits for low-noise, biocompatible sensing in fluidic environments
  • Develop and implement feedback and feed-forward control systems for maintaining stable exo-organ conditions based on sensor inputs
  • Implement circadian rhythm-based modulation of exo-organ conditions to emulate physiological environments
  • Design early-warning and predictive algorithms to detect tissue viability changes or system instability
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to integrate electronics, sensors, and control modules into compact and sterilizable assemblies
  • Participate in rapid prototyping and bench-scale testing to validate system performance
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of hands‑on experience in hardware or control systems design
  • Proven experience developing and deploying sensors or control systems for medical, life-science, wearable or bioprocessing applicationsProficiency in PCB design, circuit simulation, and embedded systems programming (e.g., C/C++, Python, or LabVIEW)
  • Solid understanding of signal processing, feedback control, and fluidic system instrumentation
  • Familiarity with sterile device design or cleanroom fabrication environments
Preferred Experience
  • Integration of electronics, sensors, and optical or electrochemical components into mechanical or fluidic systems
  • Experience designing devices that interface with living tissues or fluids
  • Background in automated or semi‑automated systems, including robotics or bioprocessing platforms
  • Collaboration with biologists, biomedical engineers, or clinicians
Who You Are
  • A hands‑on tinkerer—you enjoy designing, fabricating, and maintaining systems end‑to‑end
  • Comfortable in an early‑stage, high‑iteration environment
  • Curious, communicative, and eager to learn from experts across disciplines
  • Motivated by mission‑driven engineering and the potential to redefine organ transplantation
Why Join Us
