Senior Engineering Manager - Billing

  2025-11-05     Hinge Health     San Francisco,CA
Description:

About The Role

We are seeking a mission-driven Senior Engineering Manager to lead the engineering efforts behind our billing platform and operations. You will lead a team of 6-10 engineers focused on building and maintaining billing products and tools. You'll hire and develop engineers, establish high standards for code quality and operations, and stay close to the code through design reviews, code reviews, and periodic contributions. You will partner closely with Product, Finance, Commercial, and Operations to model contracts and pricing, support accurate billing cycles, shorten month-end close, and provide clear, timely financial data. Expect hands-on involvement in data modeling and service design with SLOs for correctness, timeliness, and availability. You'll apply automation and AI where it measurably improves accuracy, reconciliation, anomaly detection, and operator efficiency. We enjoy a continuous deployment DevOps culture, and take owner-operator pride in supporting our code in production. Our stack includes Go, gRPC, Temporal, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, PostgreSQL, Redis, Node.js/TypeScript (NestJS), GraphQL, React, and React Native. Our workflow is trunk-based CI/CD, and our security/compliance posture is at the highest standards of healthcare, including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA.

What You'll Accomplish
  • Manage the engineering team responsible for revenue-related billing systems, including key integrations across quote-to-cash, invoicing, and reconciliation.
  • Ensure strong team performance through coaching and mentorship while fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture.
  • Support hiring and resource planning with a focus on technical excellence and team health.
  • Oversee planning workflows—backlog grooming, sprint prioritization, and retrospectives—to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery while continuously improving system reliability, developer velocity, and code quality.
  • Partner with finance, product, operations, and GTM teams to deeply understand revenue workflows and deliver systems that support accurate invoicing, compliance, and strategic business decisions.

  • 4+ years of experience building and operating secure, highly available backend systems with modern languages (e.g., Go, Java, TypeScript/Node, Python)
  • Experience building and operating financial systems at scale
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience scaling contractual variations, and supporting financial systems in a SaaS or healthcare environment
  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL, understanding data models, and experience with data pipelines is a plus
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing practices and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST)
  • Proven track record of leading technical projects and process improvements in complex organizational environments
  • Effective conflict resolution and resource management skills to navigate challenging tradeoffs
  • Ability to creatively leverage AI to solve complex problems and enhance billing operations
