Position Summary

The Senior Civil Engineer will serve as the in-house technical expert overseeing all civil engineering aspects of our land development projects—from design, permitting, and construction. This individual will coordinate with consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure projects are designed efficiently, comply with all regulations, and meet the company's standards for quality and profitability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Oversight & Design Management: create and review all civil engineering work related to grading, drainage, utilities, roadway design, stormwater management, and site layout.
  • As needed work with 3rd party consultants
  • Prepare and/or review site plans, engineering drawings, and construction documents.
  • Project Coordination: Work closely with internal teams (planning, land development manager, construction, acquisitions, and finance) to align engineering deliverables with project goals, budgets, and schedules.
  • Coordinate with local jurisdictions, permitting agencies, and utility providers to secure necessary approvals.
  • Participate in design and construction meetings, providing engineering insight and problem-solving support.
  • Due Diligence & Feasibility: Evaluate potential development sites for engineering feasibility, infrastructure availability, and constraints.
  • Prepare preliminary engineering reports and cost estimates to support land acquisition decisions.
  • Construction Support: Provide technical guidance during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and verifying conformance with approved plans.
  • Assist with value engineering efforts and design modifications during project execution.
  • Quality, Compliance, & Standards: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and stormwater requirements.
  • Maintain company design standards and best practices across all projects.
  • Also chance to bring in work to work with other real estate developers.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering, with a focus on land development for residential, mixed-use, or commercial real estate projects.
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required for California or ability to obtain within 6 months]).
  • Strong understanding of land development processes, local codes, and entitlement procedures.
  • Proficiency with civil engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, StormCAD, etc.).
  • Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and efficiency.
