Join us as a Sr. Biology Project Manager at HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc.

HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc. (HELIX), a growing, employee-owned California-based environmental consulting and planning firm, is seeking a team-oriented and motivated Senior Biology Project Manager with critical thinking skills and a strong work ethic to join our Northern California team. This position primarily focuses on project work in the Central Valley or Bay Area of California, and can be based in our Roseville or Folsom Office, with a primarily remote work setup. HELIX provides services including biological assessments, CEQA/NEPA compliance, cultural resource management, habitat restoration, regulatory permitting, environmental monitoring, acoustics and noise control, GIS, and air quality and greenhouse gas management.

Position Overview

The Senior Biology Project Manager may conduct biological fieldwork occasionally; however, primary responsibilities are project management and client coordination. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with an ability to develop creative solutions, foster collaboration, and adapt to changing circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage biological resources-related projects of varying sizes and complexities, ensuring compliance with local and regional regulations
  • Lead project management tasks including client relations, team coordination, scheduling, quality assurance, budgeting, and reporting
  • Prepare technical reports and mitigation plans for CEQA/NEPA compliance, impact analysis, and regulatory permits
  • Coordinate and lead permit applications and negotiations with resource agencies
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposals and interviews
  • Mentor and train junior team members

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary ranges from $115,000 to $140,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental projects, with at least 5 years in project management roles
  • Strong communication skills and experience preparing technical reports for regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and foster client and agency relationships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree or higher in related fields
  • Experience with permit processing and agency consultations
  • Business development experience
