Description:

Hadron Energy specializes in Micro Modular Reactor (MMR) development, design, and research based in the San Francisco Bay Area. As the leading MMR developer, Hadron Energy is building factory‑produced, transportable microreactors that provide 24/7 carbon‑free power for data centers, government facilities, industrial sites, and remote communities. Our mission is to create a brighter, healthier, and more equitable energy future.

This is a full‑time on‑site role for a Digital Reactor Systems Engineer, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The position is ideal for candidates with deep expertise in digital instrumentation, control systems, and reactor operations who are passionate about developing the next generation of safe and reliable nuclear technology.

Role Overview

You will work closely with our cross‑functional team—including nuclear, mechanical, and electrical engineers—to lead the design, development, and implementation of the digital instrumentation and control (I&C) and reactor protection systems (RPS) for Hadron's micro modular reactor. This role is critical for ensuring the safe, autonomous, and efficient operation of our reactor, from sensor integration and control logic development to system simulation and verification.

  • 5+ years of experience in digital instrumentation and controls (I&C) design and implementation, preferably for nuclear or other safety‑critical systems
  • Proficiency in control systems design, modeling, and simulation using tools like MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with digital I&C platforms such as Field‑Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Strong understanding of reactor dynamics, control theory, and reactor protection system architecture
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety standards and regulatory frameworks for digital I&C (e.g., IEEE Std 7-4.3.2, NRC regulatory guides)
  • Experience with software and hardware verification and validation (V&V) processes
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity for industrial control systems is a plus
  • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Passion for clean energy and a startup‑minded approach to problem‑solving
