Job Description
The Community Engagement Specialist reports to the Director of the Economic Justice Center. The role focuses on building external partnerships, strengthening community connections, and creating opportunities to advance economic justice across San Francisco. The specialist will develop and implement outreach strategies, cultivate partnerships, represent EJC in public forums, and proactively identify opportunities to amplify impact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a community outreach strategy in collaboration with all programs and initiatives.
- Represent EJC programs at community events, meetings, and presentations, serving as a key point of contact for partners and stakeholders.
- Develop materials for external use and manage distribution of outreach collateral (flyers, brochures, newsletters, website content, social media posts, reports, briefs).
- Plan and execute outreach activities such as trainings and public presentations.
- Collaborate with Research Director on community listening; conduct interviews or focus groups.
- Create and maintain a bank of qualitative data, stories, and learning from community participants.
- Support continuous improvement of outreach strategies by testing new approaches and making adjustments.
- Develop, maintain, and foster strong working relationships with organizational partners.
- Provide project management for initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years full‑time equivalent experience in program/office/operations management, budget development and/or administration, or contracting/grant administration.
- Education substitution: One year of additional qualifying experience can substitute for the required degree on a 1:1 basis (2,000 hours ≈ 30 semester units).
Desirable Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of economic justice issues and systemic barriers to financial inclusion.
- Experience working with community members and organizations in San Francisco neighborhoods (e.g., Bayview, Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley, Excelsior, SOM, Tenderloin, Chinatown, Treasure Island, Mission).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to write clear, professional communication; work independently and collaboratively.
- Fluency in another language other than English.
