Overview

Experiences Producer at KQED. This role focuses on designing and producing large-scale participatory event experiences — including food and culture festivals, marketplaces with local makers and vendors, site-based musical performances, and other cultural activations in the Bay Area. The Producer serves as a creative, operational, and logistical lead to deliver polished, high-impact programs that center local culture and strengthen community connections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bring Creative Ideas to Life: Collaborate with the Senior Producer and broader team to shape a program of events that are joyful, surprising, community-driven, and aligned with KQED's mission, audience goals, and revenue strategy.
  • Produce Immersive Events: Lead end-to-end planning and execution of festivals, marketplaces, food and drink events, live music, and experiential campaigns — including project timelines, permitting, production requirements and schedules, vendor and talent coordination, and day-of logistics.
  • Partner with Creatives and Communities: Coordinate with talent, including chefs, artists, musicians, vendors, cultural partners, community organizations, and civic institutions to co-create events reflecting the Bay Area's diverse communities.
  • Deliver Seamless Experiences: Ensure operational excellence across signage, access, hospitality and flow to deliver welcoming and equitable experiences for attendees.
  • Collaborate to Create Editorial Event Content: Pitch multiplatform event content concepts; work with editorial and audience development teams on development and execution. Prepare scripts, interview questions, talking points, and remarks in collaboration with hosts and editors. Coordinate with content and audience operations teams to schedule reporters, producers, social media coverage, audio/video crews, and other personnel to support event execution and recording.
  • Manage Vendors and Contractors: Coordinate with caterers, AV teams, permitting agencies, security, rentals, and other contractors; gather quotes, manage scopes, and support contracting and payment processes within budget.
  • Support Marketing and Communications: Collaborate with marketing, creative, membership, and audience development teams to ensure events are well-promoted, on-brand, effectively targeted, accurately communicated, and aligned with engagement goals.
  • Contribute to Evaluation: Help track event performance, partner feedback, and audience insights to inform program iteration and growth.
  • Advance KQED's Mission in Community Spaces: Represent KQED in external spaces with professionalism and commitment to public service.

Knowledge/Experience Required

  • 3–5 years of experience producing experiential, place-based, or participatory events (festivals, large-scale food events, marketplaces, pop-ups, immersive activations, site-specific performances) that drive attendance and revenue.
  • Extensive knowledge of standard live production and operations practices, including project management, run-of-show documentation, budgets, and reporting.
  • Ability to orchestrate and manage complex event logistics and production details (permitting, vendor contracting, venue booking, site planning, A/V requirements) to deliver polished outcomes.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with multiple stakeholders (internal partners, external partners, vendors, contractors, talent, venue staff).
  • Experience in culturally diverse settings with a commitment to inclusive, equitable, community-centered approaches.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends for on-site production needs.

Knowledge/Experience Desired

  • Creative instincts and a collaborative approach to realizing big ideas within budget and timeline.
  • Familiarity with Bay Area cultural scenes and local networks is a plus.
  • Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog or other community language skills are a plus.
