Assistant/Associate Project Scientist - Power System and Market Analysis

Base pay range: $76,700 - $115,400 annually.

Position Overview

UC Berkeley is seeking an Assistant/Associate Project Scientist to support research on clean power system transition in China under Dr. Jiang Lin. The role involves modeling and analysis to develop pathways, assess market reforms, and evaluate economic, environmental, and health impacts.

Salary

The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step. Off?scale salaries may be offered to meet competitive conditions.

Position Description

Responsible for conducting research, using quantitative methods to develop clean?transition pathways for Chinas power system, and evaluating economic, health, and social impacts. Tasks include literature review, data collection for modeling parameters, preparing scientific reports, participating in peer?reviewed publications, and communicating findings. Travel up to 15% for field research and presentations.

Qualifications

• Required: Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Energy & Resources, or related field.


• Eligibility to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship).


• Ability to travel up to 15% of time.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with power system modeling using open source models such as Gridpath.


• Knowledge of open source datasets on power plants, resource assessment, and technology costs.


• Experience in electricity market operation research.


• Ability to read Chinese sources.


• Experience with health impact analysis and exposure?response functions.


• Experience working with public entities and policy bodies.


• Strong written and oral communication skills.


• Independent work capability and teamwork.
