PlayCV is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to bring fun and enriching after‑school classes, programs, camps and activities to TK‑8th grade students in our community. We offer an extensive Theater Arts program, including a yearly Musical Theater Performance class that inspires creativity, builds confidence, and fosters a love for the performing arts.

Position Summary

Assistant Musical Theater Director for the 2025/26 school year. Co‑teach the Musical Theater Performance class, with an expected time commitment of 8–10 hours per week, Monday‑Thursday late afternoons, from October through January.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning & Preparation – assist with preparing, organizing all necessary materials for the classes.
  • Instruction – assist in directing a 30‑minute to 1‑hour musical theater production for kids or Jr. students, blending MTI provided resources, PlayCV resources, and your creative vision while staying within MTI contract requirements. Teach acting technique, create choreography and blocking, support music learning, and implement creative use of props and background sets.
  • Student Supervision – oversee and direct students, maintain a positive and productive learning environment, ensure students' safety and well‑being during classes, accompany and support students backstage during tech rehearsal and performances.
  • Show Production – assist in the creative planning and execution of the final production.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum 6 months of experience working with school‑aged students in an instructional setting (entry level). Basic understanding of musical theater and production process required.
  • High School diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree in Theatre or related field is a plus. Commensurate experience will be considered.
  • Ability to manage school‑aged students with appropriate guidance and patience; understanding of techniques to maintain composure in a high‑energy environment.
  • Strong organizational skills – ability to multitask and solve problems quickly, creatively and proactively.
  • Background in dance or choir is a plus. Bilingual candidates are a plus.
  • Must be available for all class and final show dates.
