Departmental overview: UC Berkeleys Haas School of Business offers a unique opportunity to champion ideas, collaborate across boundaries, and learn in a welcoming environment. This position is part of the Academic Personnel Team that manages policies and procedures for academic employees at Haas. The School embraces flexible working arrangements, determined with the supervisor and subject to change.

Responsibilities



  • Work closely with the Associate Deans for Academic Affairs, the AP team, and affected faculty to create documentation for academic review cases, provide expertise on academic data and data collection systems, assist with case writing, coordinate complex elements to ensure on-time submission, support case success, direct faculty actions, manage leaves and sabbaticals and endowed chair appointments, lead subject group reviews, and invite external reviewers for annual evaluation of Haas subject groups. This includes utilizing and administering AP Bears system processes.

  • Administer policies and programs in wage and salary administration and training.

  • Conduct data analysis with strict confidentiality.

  • Prepare and track faculty submissions of reports in compliance with APM-025.

  • Counsel Senate and non-Senate faculty and other academic staff on moderate to complex work-related problems; interpret policies, contracts, and procedures related to compensation.

  • Collaborate with team members as the expert on the AP manual and Haas bylaws, applying knowledge to complex interpretations for senior staff and faculty.

  • Utilize faculty data to support Marketing and Communications; maintain data in lists and databases; update data for critical reports.

  • Serve as backup for faculty searches and non-senate actions as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications



  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply/interpret policies governing academic HR.

  • Understanding of organizational goals, values, and legal implications of decisions.

  • Knowledge of systemwide and campus policies, union contracts, and procedures governing academic HR.

  • Awareness of trends in academia related to academic planning and human resource management.

  • Ability to analyze complex management issues, define scope and solutions, provide professional advice to senior officials, and make critical personnel decisions.

  • Effective communication with diverse audiences; strong writing and project management skills.

  • Diplomatic, detail-oriented, customer-focused; ability to build positive professional relationships.

  • Demonstrates Haas' Defining Leadership Principles.


Education/Training



  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training.

This is an exempt, monthly-paid position. Final offers are based on candidate qualifications and internal equity considerations.
