The Opportunity

This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Diabetes Care division where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We're revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.

Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is seeking a Project Leader in the Business Enablement PMO. This person will be responsible for program leadership of projects aimed at delivering a unified, consistent and best-in-class digital customer experience. As a leader in the PMO you will drive complex projects aimed to improve NPS, acquisition and retention targets and other key experience metrics for our FreeStyle Libre platform customers, the world's #1 continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) solution. Projects may include

  • Efforts to improve operational efficiencies in complaint investigation processes

  • Reduce average handling time of customer calls by improving access to relevant data

  • Automate warranty replacement handling

As a Project Leader, you will work with a cross functional team to set strategy, evaluate ideas, prioritize features, define releases, manage product roadmap, timelines, and budget while coordinating with cross functional ADC and Abbott team members worldwide. You will be responsible for reporting project status and progress to ADC senior Management.This is an onsite opportunity in Alameda, CA.

What You'll Work On:

  • Harmonizes strategies and integrates effort across multiple projects.

  • Works closely with functional Project Managers, Product Owners, and other Subject Matter Experts from IT, R&D, Commercial, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, and other functions.

  • Leads project planning, scheduling, budgets, risk/issue monitoring and reporting of projects. Executes programs to completion and assures successful market entry.

  • Ensures big picture thinking and problem-solving are incorporated into project execution.

  • Drives for clear communication and issue resolution in cross-functional problem solving.

  • Coordinate with other Project Owners, functional managers, and management to prioritize activities across programs to balance resource availability, program deliverables and schedule, and business needs.

  • Serves as the connection between project execution teams and management- escalates issues or asks for support, takes action when a shift in direction or approach is called for, and simplifies communications as the voice of the project.

  • Confirms the ongoing strategic rationale and value proposition for projects

  • Makes timely recommendations to Management to terminate, shift direction, or call a creative thinking workshop if required by technical, commercial or other developments that may result in project failure.

  • Identifies areas for process improvement and defines and implements solutions to improve ways of working

  • Serves as a mentor, trainer, and change agent to other stakeholders as processes&ways of working are defined and implemented

Accountability / Scope / Budget

  • This position is responsible for strategic scoping, value definition, and the successful and timely implementation of product-related projects

  • Projects under the direction of the incumbent will often have material business impact, often exceeding $1MM in annual margin impact

  • This position is highly visible and accountable, responsible for liaising with management in driving alignment on key decisions, and reporting to senior management on project status

  • Accountable for driving scope, budget, and quality tradeoffs, not only for a given project, but across projects in conjunction with other stakeholders to optimize portfolio value creation

  • Incumbent has limited direct fiscal responsibility for departmental expenses, but has indirect responsibility, along with departmental budget holders, for ensuring that functional budgets are consistent with project scope and plans

  • Generally, the incumbent will not have direct reports, but will lead a matrix team with a high degree of accountability to ensure that team is appropriately resourced and that team members are defining plans and adhering to commitments

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a business or technical discipline with 10 years of relevant experience in product development, project management, and/or business process implementation, ideally in the fields of medical devices and/or pharmaceuticals.

  • Require strong technical experience in cross-functional program management and team leadership.

  • Additional cross-functional experiences in the areas of IT, R&D, Commercial, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Supply/Demand planning and/or Manufacturing, are desirable.

  • Require the ability to collect information from multiple sources, synthesize, integrate, and resolve conflicting requirements and cross-functional issues.

  • Require strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels of the organization and across variety of departments to align plans and resolve conflict.

  • Require process-oriented thinking, focused on continuous improvement and lessons learned; have demonstrated ability to define and implement complex and interdependent business processes.

  • Require strong leadership, influencing, and negotiation skills.

  • General knowledge of regulations and standards related to medical devices (eg FDA, ISO, QSR design controls.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering digital solutions to consumers in app-based or web based platforms.

  • Experience working in a global environment, partnering with people from many different time zones and cultures in parallel

  • Familiarity with agile delivery approach, backlogs, and sprints.

The base pay for this position is $146,700.00– $293,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
