Job Summary

UCSF provides multidisciplinary medical and supportive care to patients and families with Cancer. The genetic counselor works closely with medical providers to evaluate patients and families at high risk for hereditary cancer. The position participates in research and teaching, tracks data, reports outcomes, and leads grant‑writing and performance improvement initiatives. A genetic counselor III candidate will have at least five years of experience in cancer genetics, co‑manage a clinical sub‑service of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program, and be able to function independently.

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses and regional satellite locations. The cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $59.14 – $90.22 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • Computer skills and basic statistics knowledge
  • Strong written, oral communication and people skills
  • Able to create and deliver professional presentations from slides
  • Demonstrate the skill to provide consultation in oncology and carry a pager to respond to the consult service across all clinical programs
  • Genetic counselor III level requires experience co‑managing a clinical sub‑service of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program and at least five years of experience in cancer genetics, and the demonstrated ability to function independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oncology background preferred
  • 1–2 years of clinical experience

License/Certification

  • Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics
  • Master's Degree in clinical genetic counseling
  • California Genetic Counseling license
