Location: San Mateo, CA (Hybrid: ~3-4 days onsite)

About the Role

Join a venture-backed medical device startup developing breakthrough implantable structural heart technology. We're growing fast and seeking a Senior or Principal Firmware Engineer to lead embedded development for our flagship active-implantable system. You'll work closely with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to bring a first-in-class implantable product from concept to clinic.


What You'll Do

  • Own architecture and development of embedded firmware for implantable and external device systems.
  • Design, code, and test real-time embedded software (C/C++) on ARM microcontrollers.
  • Drive board bring-up, debugging, and hardware/firmware integration.
  • Develop communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, BLE).
  • Build test and verification tools to meet medical device standards (IEC 62304, ISO 13485).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and help define best practices for firmware development.


What You Bring

  • B.S./M.S. in EE, CE, or related field.
  • 7-10+ years of hands-on embedded firmware experience.
  • Expert in C/C++, RTOS, and low-level embedded systems.
  • Must Have medical device product development experience (preferably Class II/III medical devices).
  • Strong debugging, documentation, and teamwork skills.
  • Bonus: Experience with implantable devices, low-power telemetry, or BLE.
