What You'll Do
– Conduct outreach and engagement activities to promote the department's environmental programs and policies, including door‑to‑door outreach, volunteer program support, community events, tabling, phone calls, emails, presentations, and surveys.
– Plan and lead workshops, meetings, and trainings for local businesses, volunteers, neighborhood groups, community partners, and internal teams, including public speaking and facilitation.
– Use data tools to track outreach activities, maintain contact lists, and manage engagement data.
– Assist coordinators with project operations such as scheduling, event organization, and partner communication.
– Support the development of outreach materials, public messaging, and educational content.
– Respond to public inquiries and information requests in a timely, professional manner.
– (For bilingual positions) Engage outreach to residents and stakeholders with limited English proficiency and assist with translation proofreading.
– Provide general administrative support and complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
– Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or
– Two years of college education from an accredited college or university, and six months of work experience, including internships, research positions, or other experience relevant to the duties described.

Desirable Qualifications
– Familiarity with San Francisco neighborhoods, cultural communities, and/or community groups.
– Interest in learning about and applying equity, inclusion, and diversity principles.
– Ability to work collaboratively with teams, community organizations, and the public.
– Ability to stay organized while managing multiple tasks and timelines.
– Customer service, sales, and/or outreach experience with strong communication skills.
– Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, PowerPoint, and internet.
– Valid driver's license and willingness to drive a city‑issued vehicle as needed (a vehicle is provided).

Exempt Employment Status
This is a three‑year exempt position contingent on department budget conditions and demonstrated competence. Appointment to the position does not guarantee subsequent years of employment.
